Oxford 2003

The 2nd Conference of the International Society for First World War Studies

Call for Papers

Encouraged by the success of its Lyons conference and anxious to fill in the gaps of its latest project, the International Society for First World War Studies has decided to organize another conference which will take place at the Maison Française, University of Oxford, on the 23 & 24 June 2003.

We intend through this conference to gather together historians of the First World War and to give a chance to young scholars to present their work and share their preliminary findings. As a follow-up to our Lyons conference, this would provide a forum in which those who did not have the opportunity to talk there could give a paper, discuss their work and benefit from the ensuing collective discussion and would-be publication.

We hope that this conference will contribute to the comparative and interdisciplinary study of the First World War and help foster international collaboration and exchanges between different generations of WWI historians.

Our conference will be organized in five sessions of 90 to 120mn each. In each session, three papers, which would have been circulated beforehand, will be the object of a critical report presented by other speakers. The panellist will then respond to the report and a collective discussion will then ensue.

Held at the Maison Française in Oxford, 23rd-24th June 2003.
