About the Society

The International Society for First World War Studies was founded in 2001 by postgraduate students seeking a platform to discuss and share innovative research on the First World War. Twenty-five years later, the Society brings together more than 200 researchers, academics, and museum professionals from around the world, representing all career stages and a wide range of scholarly interests related to the conflict.

The Society promotes the study of the First World War through its biennial conference, a programme of regular online and in-person events, and the publication of the First World War Studies journal. It remains firmly committed to supporting emerging scholars, recognising excellence through a range of awards and prizes for postgraduate and early-career researchers.
