Book Launch: The Church of England and The First World War

The Church of England and The First World War – the leading published work on the subject –

This year sees the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. To commemorate this, on Thursday 27 February 2014, Southwark Cathedral will host the launch of the reprint of ‘The Church of England and The First World War’ by Canon Alan Wilkinson. This book, first published in 1978, has been described as ‘the leading published work on the subject’ and explores in depth the role of the church during the tragic circumstances of the First World War using biographies, newspapers, magazines, letters, poetry and other sources. Alan Wilkinson will be present at the launch.

This fascinating evening will be held in the Cathedral’s Garry Weston Library and is a must for any person who is interested in this the War’s centenary, anyone studying the history of the church, or anyone keen to hear about life in the early 20th Century.
